Getting started with a practice account

Questrade Trading and Questrade Edge platforms offer you access to trading stocks, ETFs, and options on a wide variety of North American markets including the TSX, NYSE, NASDAQ & more.

You start with $500,000 CAD and USD in virtual cash, and the practice account uses simulated market data from the previous trading day.

We replay that data in cycles to make the simulation available for you to use even after regular market hours. So the prices you see in the demo account may not line up with other sources exactly.

Questrade Global offers you access to over 110 currency pairs and commodities like USD/EUR and Oil/Gas for trading, and in addition, we also offer access to 15+ international exchanges for CFD trading.

You start with $100,000 virtual CAD, and with up to 40:1 leverage on certain positions. The practice account uses live market data for currency pair quotes, and up to a 15-minute delay for stock CFDs. If you already have a Questrade account with your own username and password, skip to the section below.

New users

1. Visit our website - Questrade Trading, Questrade Edge or Questrade Global, and sign up for a free practice account.
2. Enter your personal details, and click the green 'Get started' button.

Your practice username and password will be shown on the next screen, along with a link to log-in (for Questrade trading and Global), or a link to download your demo Questrade Edge software.

You will also receive your practice account log in information by email.

Please note: For practice/demo accounts, you can only log in from the specific practice account log in page, not the ‘main’ Questrade log in screen. This includes Questrade Edge, practice account credentials will only work with the demo version of Questrade Edge, or the demo version of Questrade trading. Questrade Global practice accounts will only work with the practice version of Questrade Global.

Existing users

1. Log in to your Questrade account
2. Click the navigation menu in the upper left corner, and click “ Other Platforms ”
3. Scroll down on the page to “Get your practice account now” and click the arrow

Your practice user ID and password will be shown, along with a link to download the practice version of Questrade Edge for Windows or Mac.

Please note: These credentials are not emailed to you, but you can come back to this page anytime to retrieve them.

You can use this practice username and password to log into the demo Questrade Edge software on your computer, or the practice version of Questrade Trading (web). Note: This username will not be able to log into the ‘regular’ version of Questrade Edge, or Questrade Trading. To sign up for Questrade Global, follow the link in the section above.

Here are some useful things to know about our practice accounts:

1. By clicking Reset, you can reset any previous trades you made and start again at any time.
2. Practice accounts are free of charge.
3. You can see what the commission charges would be, excluding ECN (electronic communication network) and SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) fees.
4. Practice account market data may not be 100% accurate due to the simulation using the previous day’s data. Please do not rely on our practice accounts when making real money transactions.
5. Some options ‘chains’ are not available within the practice platform due to simulation limitations, please try an alternative symbol if you encounter this issue.
6. Practice accounts for Equities are not available through the Questrade mobile app. Alternatively, you can log in through a mobile browser on your device to use the practice accounts.
7. Practice accounts for Questrade Global are also available through the Questrade FX app. You can download this from the Apple app store, or Google play store. Please make sure to tap “demo” when logging into the app while using a practice account.
