Checking your current balances

  1. In the main toolbar, click Account, then select the Balances tab.



  2. The balances tab header displays the account you are currently viewing the balances for. To view balances for a different account under the same log in, navigate to the top right corner of Questrade IQ, then select the account from the account drop-down.




  3. By default, your current balances will be displayed. To view start of day balances, click Start of day. When you select the start of day option, your balances at the completion of daily processing for the previous calendar day will be shown.

The following table describes the information in the rest of Balances tab.

Standard accounts

The following columns appear in the Balances tab when viewing a standard account. For example: individual margin, TFSA, RRSP, LIRA, etc.

Column  Description
Cash The cash row is the total amount of cash you have available to use in Canadian, US, Canadian (combined), or US (combined) dollars. This is the amount that you are able to immediately withdraw or the total amount available to purchase securities using a registered account. An amount in red indicates a negative amount that is owed on the account.
Market Value Actual total market value of all positions if the selected account has any position on Canadian or U.S. securities.
Total Equity Actual total equity value (cash + market value) for the selected account in Canadian or U.S. dollars.
Buying Power Actual buying power if the selected account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00. This row displays the amount of funds available for purchasing intraday equity for the selected account. 

Note:
 buying power is calculated differently for margin accounts.
Maintenance Excess Actual maintenance excess if the selected account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00. This row displays the equity maintenance requirements for the buying power of the selected account.
Profit and loss Profit and loss figures for the open quantities or for the closed positions. To learn more about profit and loss, see Viewing profit and loss figures
Daily orders  Shows all closed and open orders for the current calendar day. 


Margin power accounts

In addition to the cash, market value and total equity columns, the following information appears when viewing a Margin power account.

Column  Description
Cash Actual cash value if the selected account has Canadian or U.S. dollars.
Market value                    Actual total market value of all positions if the selected account has any position on Canadian or U.S. securities.
Total equity Actual total equity value (cash + market value) for the selected account in Canadian or U.S. dollars.
Margin maint   excess Actual maintenance excess if the margin account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
 
TFSA maint excess  Actual maintenance excess if the leveraged TFSA account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
 
Total maint excess Actual sum of the maintenance excess if the margin power account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
 
Margin buying power Actual buying power if the margin account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
TFSA buying power Actual buying power if the leveraged TFSA account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
Total buying power  Actual sum of the margin account's buying power and leveraged TFSA's buying power if the margin account has either a cash or market value figure that does not equal $0.00.
