Trade order status

Learn what the potential statuses of your trade order means.

Once you place a trade, you’ll want to find information about the status of your order.

The list below outlines the potential outcomes of your trade orders.

Failed

An order has failed the Questrade automatic order validation process. A rejection reason accompanies this status (e.g., insufficient buying power, insufficient shares).

Such orders are not sent to the market.

Pending

An order has passed the automatic order validation process and has been sent, but is pending confirmation from the exchange, or has been sent to Trade Desk for review but is pending approval.

An order in pending state cannot be modified or cancelled.

Accepted

Indicates when:

  • Accepted by the exchange
  • Accepted by Questrade and is waiting to be triggered (with Stop orders for example)

Rejected

Indicates when the order has been:

  • An order has been rejected by the exchange. A rejection reason accompanies this status
  • An order has been rejected by Trade Desk. A rejection reason accompanies this status
  • An order has been a pending replace request and the original order has been triggered before the replace request was approved. A rejection reason accompanies this status
  • A replace request order has been pending Trade Desk review and the original order has been triggered before the replace request was approved

Cancel pending

Indicates when a cancellation has been sent but the order has not been cancelled with the exchange. This is a direct result of a cancelled order request.

Cancelled

An order is in this status when it has been completely cancelled and the order is no longer open. Indicates:

  • Confirmation for a cancel order request has been received from the exchange. A cancellation reason accompanies this status
  • A cancel request has been received for a queued order. A cancellation reason accompanies this status
  • A cancel request has been received for an order awaiting trigger. A cancellation reason accompanies this status
  • A day order has expired. A cancellation reason accompanies this status
  • A Good-till-cancelled (GTC) order has been expired by a reconciliation procedure. A cancellation reason accompanies this status
  • An order has been cancelled by the exchange without a cancel request. A cancellation reason accompanies this status

Partial cancelled

This status is identical to the cancelled status, except this status applies to partially-filled orders

A partial quantity has been executed (filled), but there are still shares open that are waiting to be filled that are associated with the order.

Executed

The entire quantity of an order has been completely filled.

Replace pending

This status appears when:

  • A replace request has been sent but the order has not been replaced by the exchange
  • A replace request is waiting for Trade Desk review

Replaced

The order has been replaced by a new order.

Queued

The order has been placed with no order route available at the time. The order is queued on Questrade’s servers until the market opens.

Triggered

The order has been triggered, and a new native order has been sent.
This is visible for stop, stop-limit, trailing stop, and trailing stop-limit orders.

Activated

An order placed during off-market hours (i.e., queued) has been processed by the IQ platform. At the time of processing, the original queued order is replaced with an identical new order that is then sent to the exchange.

Risk review

An order with this status meets certain criteria and must be reviewed by the Trade Desk before it is sent to the market. To learn why your specific orders are being reviewed, contact the Trade Desk at 1.866.980.9590

Contingent order

A one-cancels-other (OCO) bracket order that is attached to an order that has not been completely filled. An order in this state can be modified or cancelled entirely.
